In what's become a running theme this season, the North Stanly Comets gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 46-21 margin over Mount Pleasant. Given North Stanly's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Mount Pleasant is ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading North Stanly to victory were Lexie Brown and Shalyn Bell. Brown dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Bell almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Bell is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Allie Morgan, who scored seven points along with three steals.
The win was the third in a row for North Stanly, bringing their record for this year to 17-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.3 points. As for Mount Pleasant, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Stanly will take on Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Stanly is on a three-game streak of home wins, Albemarle a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Mount Pleasant will take on Union Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Mount Pleasant likes a good challenge.
