Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot got a massive performance out of Pete Bodman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Bodman a new career-high. Taylor Hamner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tidewater Academy only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Brunswick Academy sidestepped Amelia Academy for a 4-2 win.
Nathan Wells was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Brunswick Academy is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Wells was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ross Reese, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Grayson Newsome also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot pushed their record up to 8-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brunswick Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brunswick Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
