Baseball Recap: Benjamin Find Success

It was close, but on Tuesday the Benjamin Buccaneers sidestepped the Nease Panthers for a 4-3 win.

Thomas Harris looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Benjamin: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Benjamin's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Havlicek, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. CJ Soto was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Benjamin's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Nease, they moved to 6-8 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benjamin will square off against American Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nease, they will challenge Park Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
