Softball Recap: Ironton Has No Trouble Against South Point

Ironton lost to South Point on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Fighting Tigers were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Pointers. Considering the Fighting Tigers have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Bihl spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aubrey Ferguson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. Aubry Shavers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Ironton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Ironton's record now sits at 11-3. As for South Point, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.

Coming up, Ironton will challenge Loris at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Point, they will take on Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pointers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
