The University Prep Science & Math Cobra will be home for the holidays to greet the Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, University Prep Science & Math was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-40 to Chandler Park Academy.
Meanwhile, Mt. Clemens' 12-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell to Edison Academy 43-37. While losing is never fun, Mt. Clemens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Edison Academy is ranked fourth).
Despite the defeat, Mt. Clemens got a solid performance out of Le'ila Sears, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Leah Williams, who scored six points along with five assists.
University Prep Science & Math bumped their record down to 1-3 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Mt. Clemens, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
