The Vernon Yellowjackets and the Chipley Tigers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Vernon Yellowjackets had to settle for second. Vernon was beaten by Chipley 42-0. Vernon has struggled against Chipley recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Caiden Coltrane threw for 39 yards on only two passes. Matthew Carroll was his top target, picking up 39 receiving yards. On the ground, Ryan Scott rushed for 74 yards.
Among those leading the charge was Ethan Berry, who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Keybo Decree was in the mix as well, providing Chipley with two touchdowns.
Vernon now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Chipley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Chipley will head out on the road to face off against Holmes County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Holmes County is ranked 244th, while Chipley is ranked 263rd).
