The River Bluff Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Chapin Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 56-3, which was the final score in River Bluff's tilt against Dutch Fork on Friday. River Bluff was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-3.
Meanwhile, Chapin was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Thursday as they fell 20-14 to White Knoll. While losing is never fun, Chapin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while White Knoll is ranked sixth).
Chapin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cole Martin, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Brady Albro who threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Chapin's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. White Knoll's QB won't forget Tanner Short anytime soon given Short sacked him five times.
River Bluff's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.0 points per game. As for Chapin, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for River Bluff against Chapin in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for River Bluff since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
