Hudson Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Paysen Oliver was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton White, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Lyon County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, McLean County narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Trinity 6-4. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Layden Bozarth, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Aden Bolden, who earned three runs and three stolen bases.
Lyon County's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for McLean County, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lyon County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474.
