Baseball Recap: Cedar Creek Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Cedar Creek's victory against Buena wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Chiefs on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 25, 2024.

Richie Gonzales was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzales was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, JJ Watkins was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kevin Castillo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

Cedar Creek hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena struck out eight times.

The win (which was Cedar Creek's third in a row) raised their record to 12-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cedar Creek will host Hammonton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Buena, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oakcrest at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
