Baseball Recap: Mitchell Wins Going Away Against Hampton

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mitchell and Hampton meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Mitchell Mountaineers blew past the Hampton Bulldogs 15-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mountaineers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Jace Blanton and AJ Mackey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Blanton tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Mackey struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Blanton scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Mackey went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Blanton also got a hit, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Jett Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Williams a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Riley Silver, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton only managed six hits.

Mitchell's record is now 2-3. As for Hampton, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, Mitchell is taking a road trip to take on Johnson County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Johnson County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.8 runs per game on average), something Mitchell will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hampton, they will be playing at home against Happy Valley at 5:30 a.m. on Monday.
