Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact the Homestead Broncos proved on Thursday. They snuck past Braddock with a 40-35 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Homestead.
Caitylyn Gibson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 14 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ardajah Fletcher, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Braddock's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elsa Stier , who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Stier is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Janessa Chavez was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Homestead's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Braddock, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.
Homestead and TERRA Environmental will face off at 5:00 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. TERRA Environmental will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 356th, while Homestead is ranked 114th). Braddock won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mater Academy Charter at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th.
