The Jefferson Wildcats will square off against the Fort Jennings Musketeers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Jefferson proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 17) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Ada. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Jaxon Rahrig, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fort Jennings, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Continental 11-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Musketeers, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Owen Calvelage was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Fort Jennings is 5-1 when Calvelage posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Calvin Menke was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Jennings' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Adam Hoersten was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Fort Jennings always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Continental only posted an OBP of .276.
Fort Jennings' victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-13.
Jefferson couldn't quite finish off Fort Jennings in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
