Basketball Game Preview: New Kent Trojans vs. Lafayette Rams

The New Kent Trojans will challenge the Lafayette Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in New Kent's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Friday, everything went New Kent's way against Poquoson as New Kent made off with a 73-53 victory. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Will Ross, who went 8 for 13 en route to 22 points and three steals. His evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marty Wray, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 19 points.

New Kent smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lafayette's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 64-55 to Bruton.

New Kent will need focus on slowing down Kijaun Wyatt, one of several Lafayette players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 16 points and five steals. Wyatt is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Wayne Santos was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Lafayette's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for New Kent, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-0.

Everything came up roses for New Kent against Lafayette in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured an 88-43 victory. Will New Kent repeat their success, or does Lafayette have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
