Baseball Recap: Bagley Drops Season-High Score on Walker-Hackensack-Akeley

Bagley extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Flyers' highest-scoring game to date.

Kamryn Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Bagley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Treyton Broden, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That RBI was Broden's first of the season.

As for Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Walker-Hackensack-Akeley's side, Gavin Swanson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Swanson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cole Rutten and Levi Meschke did most of the damage at the plate: Rutten went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Meschke went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bagley will venture away from home to face off against Red Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, they will face off against Laporte at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
