Softball Recap: Northwest Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canton South, Northwest was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders by a score of 6-1. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 13-12 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Courtney Boggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Northwest let Lily Lyons and Riley McGeorge run wild. Lyons went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while McGeorge went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave McGeorge a new career-high. Hudson Garrett also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

The win got Northwest back to even at 6-6. As for Canton Central Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Northwest will take on Orrville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Riders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.11 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Canton Central Catholic, they will challenge Lake Center Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tiger have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
