It was a good run, but the Purvis Tornadoes unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-27 loss at the hands of Columbia. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Purvis has scored all season.
Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Breleigh Adkins, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Adkins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Systren Eliza Elenus, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
It was another big night for Jakira Brown, who scored 22 points for Columbia. Brown is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Payshunce Sims was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Purvis' loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Columbia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Purvis will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. Lawrence County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Purvis likes a good challenge. As for Columbia, they will head out on the road to face off against Poplarville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Poplarville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Columbia is ranked 82nd).
