Two dominant backs in Daylon Cobb and Vudrico Roberson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Martin Warriors will take on the Haltom Buffalos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Martin has given up an average of 39.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Martin came up short against Bowie and fell 56-43. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Volunteers 14-7 in the first quarter.
Javian Jones-Priest put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 52 yards and two TDs.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Haltom, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 61-20 win over Grand Prairie. The Buffalos' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Haltom found their leader in sophomore Roberson, who rushed for 262 yards and six scores while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also caught one touchdown.incredibly, Elijah Lewis got all that yardage with just one huge run
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Haltom was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 383 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Haltom didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Keyan Parks and Demian Ramirez Lopez. Parks also made four total tackles, which is notable because Haltom is 2-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 0-3 otherwise. Logan Lange was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 12 total tackles.
Martin's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Haltom, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Martin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 212.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Haltom struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 287.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Martin couldn't quite get it done against Haltom in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 as they fell 56-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Roberson, who rushed for 394 yards and five TDs while picking up 14.1 yards per carry.
