The Hay Springs Hawks gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took down Cody-Kilgore 49-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Hay Springs also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Hay Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabby Twarling led the charge by scoring 13 points along with 6 steals. Julia Russell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 21 rebounds.
Hay Springs' victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Cody-Kilgore, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Arthur County the next time they take the court. Hay Springs will host Arthur County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Cody-Kilgore will host them on Friday.
