For the first time this season, Pisgah will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Puckett Wolves at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Puckett will be up against a hot Pisgah squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Pisgah put the hurt on Ethel with a sharp 11-4 win on Saturday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Brooke Cooper was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Madysen Washington was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Pisgah hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Puckett had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 11-7.
Lila Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Erin Fletcher, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Brooke Shivers, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Pisgah pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Puckett, their record is now 6-2-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pisgah has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .486. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pisgah took their win against Puckett when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pisgah since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
