Basketball Game Preview: Oceanside Mariners vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

The Oceanside Mariners will head out to square off against the Mt. Ararat Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Oceanside took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Morse 66-33. The Mariners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Aubrianna Hoose, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Her evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Grace Mackie, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points.

Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat entered their tilt with Westbrook on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Blue Blazes by a score of 67-54. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Blue Blazes are ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oceanside pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Mt. Ararat, their record now sits at 12-2.

Oceanside came up short against Mt. Ararat in their previous meeting back in January of 2017, falling 45-40. Can Oceanside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
