The Rifle Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 78-61 bruising from Summit. That's two games in a row now that Rifle has lost by exactly 17 points.
Despite the loss, Rifle still got an impressive performance from Logan Gross, who scored 25 points. Sterling Cook was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
It was another big night for Eduardo Gutierrez, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 4 assists for Summit. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gutierrez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hank Chabot, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Rifle has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Summit, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rifle won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Moffat County is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Bears a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. As for Summit, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on January 27th. One thing working in Delta's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
