Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Manzano Monarchs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a serious blow against Valley on Saturday, falling 50-0. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Manzano in their matchups with Valley: they've now lost three in a row.
Tazhe Wilson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Wilson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Charles Lopez-Burton made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Manzano's defeat was their fifth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 2-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-2 Los Alamos and 8-2 Sandia (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.8% over those games). As for Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Manzano does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Valley will head out on the road to face off against Piedra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedra Vista is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
