Softball Recap: Lone Pine Comes Up Short

Lone Pine extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Trona Tornadoes. The Golden Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Tornadoes from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Allisson Villa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Alina Berry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

As for Trona, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Trona's side, Lily Mehan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Mehan has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Autumn Dunn was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Corrion, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

Lone Pine wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-9 defeat against Mojave on the 1st. As for Trona, they have also already played their next game, a 13-2 victory against Lee Vining on the 2nd.
