Northeastern and Central York are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Northeastern Bobcats face off against Central York Panthers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Northeastern is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They came out on top against South Western by a score of 6-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Bobcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Northeastern's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Neri, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Neri a new career-high. Derek Gross also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Central York, as they earned their first away win of the season. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Dallastown on Wednesday.
The team relied heavily on Jack Klimchock, who went 3-for-4 with one home run. Kirby Eidson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Central York was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dallastown only posted a batting average of .154.
Northeastern's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Central York, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northeastern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Central York struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Northeastern's way against Central York in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Northeastern made off with a 13-7 win. Will Northeastern repeat their success, or does Central York has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
