Basketball Recap: Academy for Technology and The Classics Comes Up Short

Academy for Technology and The Classics was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the Robertson Cardinals 97-61. While losing is never fun, Academy for Technology and The Classics can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Robertson is ranked ninth).

Academy for Technology and The Classics' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cayleb Blea, who went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points in addition to six steals and five assists, and Mikey Mora, who posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Mora's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joseph Trujillo III, who scored 12 points.

Even though they lost, Academy for Technology and The Classics smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Leading Robertson to victory were George Smith and Jesse James Gonzales. Smith went 11 of 15 on his way to 27 points, while Gonzales went 12 for 17 en route to 27 points. That's the most points Gonzales has posted since back in December of 2024. Nathaniel Gonzales was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and five assists.

Academy for Technology and The Classics' loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Robertson, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Academy for Technology and The Classics will venture away from home to square off against Santa Fe Indian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Academy for Technology and The Classics is facing Santa Fe Indian at the right time seeing as Santa Fe Indian is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Robertson, they will welcome St. Michael's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Robertson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 18 matchups.
