The Monroe Catholic Rams are taking a road trip to square off against the Lathrop Malemutes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lathrop took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Monroe Catholic, who comes in off a win.
Monroe Catholic had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Hutchison on Wednesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 20-2 win. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by ten runs or more this season.
Daniel Bergstrom was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Liam Quirk looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Monroe Catholic is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Jett Debaun was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlie Menard, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lathrop faced Monroe Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Malemutes fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-1. The Malemutes just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.
Hunter Clements made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Monroe Catholic's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lathrop, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Lathrop's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monroe Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. It's a different story for Lathrop, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Monroe Catholic's hitters?
Monroe Catholic skirted past Lathrop 3-1 in their previous meeting on Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
