Zoey Gruber was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lansing Catholic got a big performance out of Sydney Convey, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Ava Garcia also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Lansing Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
East Lansing couldn't beat Holt on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Trojans lost 20-4 to the Rams.
Nevaeh Vasquez was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Talia Dunn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
East Lansing's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Lansing Catholic, their record is now 9-3.
East Lansing's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lansing Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. It's a different story for East Lansing, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Lansing Catholic's hitters?
Lansing Catholic suffered a grim 27-13 defeat to East Lansing in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
