Fuqua is on a ten-game streak of home losses, Amelia Academy a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Fuqua Falcons will take on the Amelia Academy Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Fuqua lost to Southampton Academy at home by a decisive 50-33 margin.
Loss or not, Fuqua got some senior leadership from Mason Pleasants and Sam Minix. Pleasants dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Minix. dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Pleasants pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Amelia Academy had to suffer through a rough 81-40 loss at the hands of Brunswick Academy. Amelia Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-14.
Despite their loss, Amelia Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Troy Hill, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Barbour, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Fuqua has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Amelia Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fuqua have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Amelia Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fuqua didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Amelia Academy in their previous matchup on January 3rd, but they still walked away with a 31-26 victory. Will Fuqua repeat their success, or does Amelia Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
