The Cienega Bobcats will face off against the Pueblo Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Cienega took on Desert View on Friday. Cienega blew past Desert View 60-34. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-12.
Cienega found their leader in sophomore Mia Lopez, who went 6 of 7 en route to 16 points and seven steals. What's more, Lopez also posted a 86% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Emma Guevara was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pueblo waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Caballeros 72-41. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 25 points or more this season.
Pueblo's win came from a few key players Cienega will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was America Cazares, who went 10 for 20 on her way to 24 points and five boards. Her evening made it 18 games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Asia Clark, who posted 13 points along with eight steals and seven assists.
Pueblo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.
Pueblo pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points over those games. As for Cienega, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cienega has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pueblo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cienega took a serious blow against Pueblo when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 63-20. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cienega was down 36-8.
