Baseball Recap: White Station Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

White Station came tearing into Monday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Independence Wildcats a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Henry Lomax made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Hayes Bennett and Cooper Walter did most of the damage at the plate: Bennett scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Walter went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Walter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Townsend Buring, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

White Station pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.

Looking ahead, White Station will venture away from home to face off against Tipton Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.74 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Independence, they will challenge Amanda Elzy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
