The Huntland Hornets will face off against the Cascade Champions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Huntland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Middle Tennessee Monarchs with a sharp 9-1 win on Saturday. The Hornets not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024.
Eli Fitch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit.
On the hitting side, Grant Jernigan was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carson Riley, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Huntland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cascade got the win against Rocket City on Friday by a conclusive 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Champions, who have now won six matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Caleb Crouch and Elijah Wesenberg made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Crouch struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Meanwhile, Wesenberg tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Crouch scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Wesenberg scored a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Daymian Maldonado was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Jordan Childress was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Cascade and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Huntland, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
