The Kamiak Knights will face off against the Meadowdale Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kamiak is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Kamiak is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Marysville Getchell 20-1 on Thursday. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Andrew Fetty made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Andrew Hernandez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Malachi Noet was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Koga, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Kamiak hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, while Meadowdale put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Everett. The Mavericks walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Seagulls. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.
Not much got past Tristan Dodds, who gave up just four hits to keep Everett off the board. Dodds also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Meadowdale is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kealoha Kepo'O-Sabate, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Aaron Hurlbut was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Kamiak pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Meadowdale, their win bumped their record up to 5-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kamiak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Meadowdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Kamiak skirted past Meadowdale 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2016. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
