If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Walnut Ridge. On Friday they take on Corning at 7:00 PM. Walnut Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Corning will be stumbling in from a defeat.
After having lost a blowout in their match two weeks ago against Osceola, Walnut Ridge were happy to find some success last Friday. Last Friday, Walnut Ridge won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Piggott 35-34. Among those leading the charge for Walnut Ridge was senior Cade Burris, who rushed for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. In fact, with 14 tackles Burris was a force on both sides of the ball.
Meanwhile, things haven't been easy for Corning, and their contest last Friday only extended their streak of losses to six. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 20-51 punch to the gut against Hoxie. Corning were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 6-44.
Walnut Ridge simply couldn't be stopped the last time the two teams met, as they easily beat Corning 49-14. Will Walnut Ridge repeat their success, or does Corning have a better game plan this time around ? We'll find out soon enough.
