Amador Valley is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the San Ramon Valley Wolves at 7:15 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Amador Valley's victory against Dublin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dons had just enough and edged out the Gaels 17-14. The win continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Gaels: they've now won seven in a row.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Vincent Maiorana and Andre Armendariz. Maiorana had a solid game on Friday and rushed for 70 yards and one score on only nine carries. Meanwhile, Armendariz did his best for the losing side, rushing for 120 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Ramon Valley). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Granada 49-13. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Matadors are ranked 313th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amador Valley better keep an eye on Cole Dawes. He was instrumental in San Ramon Valley's win, throwing for 212 yards and five TDs on only 16 passes. Dawes is becoming a predictor of the Wolves' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something San Ramon Valley proved: they limited Granada to a paltry 1.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Jake Ninekirk for the heroic effort on defense: he. San Ramon Valley's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.1.
San Ramon Valley's defense didn't let Ben Warner, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Landon Maloney refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Owen Power got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
San Ramon Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Amador Valley, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Amador Valley has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for San Ramon Valley, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 84.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Amador Valley and San Ramon Valley were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but Amador Valley came up empty-handed after a 29-28 loss.
