The 2021 high school football season in Iowa kicks off Aug. 27 and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock starts the year atop the Hawkeye State rankings after an 11-1 season that saw the Lions fall in the 2A finals.
The Lions return junior quarterback
Zach Lutmer after he threw for nearly 1,200 yards with eight TDs and added 1,600 more on the ground with 23 scores in an offense that scored more than 35 points per game They also return 39 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks from junior
Kayden Van Berkum.
In addition to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, the 2A division is crowded with West Lyon, Odebold Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove and Waukon, last year's champion.
Other state champions include: Regina in Class A, Ankeny (4A), North Scott (3A) and Odebold-Arthur-Battle Creek-Ida Grove (1A).
