Service is 8-2 against Eagle River since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will take on the Wolves at 5:15 p.m. Service will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Service is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Bartlett, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Service was ranked first). The Cougars were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Golden Bears on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jazz Abad made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Abad was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Noah Cummings was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Casey Stoops, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Service always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bartlett only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Eagle River posted their closest victory since May 23, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past West Anchorage 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Wolves sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Eagle River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Lierman, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Service pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Eagle River, their record now sits at 7-2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Service has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eagle River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Service skirted past Eagle River 5-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
