Academy recap September 24, 2013
Sage Hill moved up to 913 from 997 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Academy. The Lightning were able to move up by defeating Escondido Charter 21-16.
Crean Lutheran fell to Excelsior Charter 51-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Sage Hill's dynamic duo of Robbie Rosoff and Vince Whetmore proved to be unstoppable against the White Tigers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rosoff threw for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns and Whetmore had 124 yards receiving. Will Burns helped Sage Hill's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 48 yards.
JR Tolver's team's dynamic duo of Rosoff and Whetmore proved tough for Escondido Charter to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Matthew Sanchez was the best running back in the league this week. In 31 carries, he ran for 193 yards as Calvary Chapel topped Mark Carlson's team. Teammate Jeremy Hernandez added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.
Whetmore was the best wideout in the league this week as Sage Hill beat the White Tigers.
He was 12-20 with 0 interception.
Rosoff put up the best numbers in passing as the Lightning bested Escondido Charter.
Daniel Castro was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Grizzlies topped Albert Einstein Academy. The 5-foot-9 defensive back.
Sanchez was a passing and rushing force as Calvary Chapel defeated the Rockets. Sanchez's favorite target this week was Seth Baumann, who caught 2 passes for 15 yards.
Sage Hill's CJ McCord and Whetmore have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Academy in both passing and receiving yards. McCord has thrown for 238 yards this season, while Whetmore has 11 catches for 179 yards. Sanchez from Thomas Laidlaw's team leads the league in rushing with 193 yards.
The Grizzlies and Albert Einstein Academy played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Grizzlies eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory. Sanchez during the win.
