The Willamette Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a tough 80-60 defeat at the hands of South Eugene. While losing is never fun, Willamette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while South Eugene is ranked 85th).
It was another big night for Levi Hawes, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds for South Eugene. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Yoder, who scored 11 points.
Willamette's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for South Eugene, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willamette won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Roseburg at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Roseburg has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 562 points over their last eight matches. South Eugene will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Sheldon at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Sheldon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully South Eugene likes a good challenge.
