Basketball Game Preview: Moffat Cowboys vs. Creede Miners

The Moffat Cowboys will venture away from home to take on the Creede Miners at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Moffat has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Moffat is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest victory since January 10th on Saturday. They blew past Lake City 62-41. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with Lake City recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

It was another big night for Preston Heater, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 steals. His afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Tulasi McBride was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Moffat was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Creede beat Antonito 41-29 last Saturday.

Creede's win came from a few key players Moffat will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Charlie Fairchild, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. He has become a key player for Creede: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 2-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Charles Heinrich, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points.

Moffat's record is now 7-9. As for Creede, their record now sits at 5-10.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Moffat has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Creede struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Moffat was dealt a bruising 59-30 loss at the hands of Creede in their previous meeting back in January. Can Moffat avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
