Even though the Canyon View Falcons have not done well against the Dixie Flyers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Canyon View walked away with a 51-42 win over Dixie. That's another feather in the cap for Canyon View, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Maya Nichols was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bethanee Vargas, who scored seven points.
When it comes to explaining why Dixie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kealah Faumuina. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Faumuina scored a full 52.4% of Dixie's points, the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaycee Bundy, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Canyon View is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. As for Dixie, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-6.
Canyon View will play host again and welcome Juab, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Juab is ranked 41st, while Canyon View is ranked 47th). Dixie is on the road again on Thursday and play against Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Hopefully Hurricane focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
