The Covington Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Adamsville Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Covington gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Gibson County with a sharp 7-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Kinslee Hamm was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Hamm was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Hamm, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Caroline Cole was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one double.
Covington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Adamsville hadn't done well against Jackson South Side recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Adamsville never let Jackson South Side get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Cardinals' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Hayley Brewer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Baya Bromley was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Luna, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Adamsville pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Both Covington and Adamsville just can't seem to miss. Covington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Adamsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Adamsville when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Covington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
