Mt. Morris and Durand are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Mt. Morris Panthers will be playing at home against the Durand Railroaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Mt. Morris came into Monday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 57-52 victory over Bendle on Monday. The win was just what Mt. Morris needed coming off of a 52-31 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Durand had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They secured a 70-65 W over Bendle.
It was another big night for Markell Tate, who scored 30 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Joslin, who scored eight points along with eight assists and three steals.
Mt. Morris' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-10. As for Durand, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Mt. Morris, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 78-61 loss to Durand when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Tate, who scored 23 points along with five steals. Now that Mt. Morris knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
