Basketball Game Preview: Oakwood Academy Mustangs vs. Lee Generals

The Oakwood Academy Mustangs will take on the Lee Generals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oakwood Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Lee likes a good challenge.

Oakwood Academy is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering John Carroll Catholic just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 67-64. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 248th).

Oakwood Academy might have lost, but man, Austin Germono was a machine: he went 11 for 23 on his way to 25 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Germono's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Will Lewis was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Oakwood Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lee was beaten by Buckhorn 73-40 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Generals in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now lost nine in a row.

Oakwood Academy's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5. As for Lee, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Oakwood Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Lee in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, sneaking past 62-59. Does Oakwood Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lee turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
