The Evans Trojans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Heritage Prep by a score of 64-52. The win was some much needed relief for Evans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Evans to victory, but perhaps none more so than JaKayla Slater, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Slater scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Zaria Nelson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Heritage Prep saw an underclassman step up: Oluwafimijoba Oyedeji dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Trent, who scored 16 points along with two blocks.
Evans' win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-15. As for Heritage Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evans and Winter Springs will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Heritage Prep, they will head out on the road to challenge Landmark Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Landmark Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
