North Decatur is 8-2 against Milan since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The North Decatur Chargers will take on the Milan Indians at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North Decatur has seven straight wins, Milan has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
North Decatur stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 63-20 win over Edinburgh on the road. Given North Decatur's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Edinburgh is ranked 385th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ella Kunz continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Clare Kinker was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Milan struggled with assists on Thursday (Waldron had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Milan took a hard 62-45 fall against Waldron.
Milan's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaiya Rinear, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, and Emma Voss who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Rinear is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played.
North Decatur is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Milan, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-18.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Kunz and Rinear. Kunz has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 14.1 points, 2 steals, and 8.1 rebounds. For her part, Rinear has averaged 13.2 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.
North Decatur strolled past Milan in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 50-36. Will North Decatur repeat their success, or does Milan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
