There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Mendenhall got a 52 - 35 win over Northeast Jones last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Christian Allen. Allen earned three touchdowns and 129 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Allen as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Brandon and Oak Grove, 3rd and 10th in the MaxPreps state rankings, respectively. Brandon claimed a 31 - 21 victory over Oak Grove. One star in particular for Brandon was senior Dallas Smith, who rushed for 142 yards and one touchdown.
Movin on Up
Pelahatchie claimed most-improved honors this week by climbing the power ranking ladder four rungs after its game against Scott Central. Pelahatchie narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Scott Central 21 - 19. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Javeious Purvis, who brought his A game into the contest. He ran for 140 yards and also punched in two touchdowns.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Madison Central (3rd in the power rankings) and Northwest Rankin (2nd). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Northwest Rankin and Madison Central both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Northwest Rankin with five and Madison Central with five), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
