For the first time this season, Delta will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Vacaville Christian Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Delta's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past West Campus 76-0. The win was all the more spectacular given the Saints' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 596th, while the Warriors are ranked 99th).
Delta found their leader in sophomore Royce Cornelson, who rushed for 136 yards and three TDs on only eight carries. Cornelson's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Delta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Delta, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jax Soto, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Vacaville Christian's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They claimed a resounding 51-0 victory over Valley. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Falcons had established a 44-point advantage.
Delta better keep an eye on Luke Parrish. He was instrumental in Vacaville Christian's win, picking up 129 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Parrish also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making two total tackles. Emanuel Cox also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Vacaville Christian's defense and their three sacks. Leading the way was Anthony Todd with two.
Vacaville Christian pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 1.0 point on average this season. As for Delta, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Everything came up roses for Delta against Vacaville Christian when the teams last played back in August of 2023, as the team secured a 47-10 victory. In that contest, the Saints amassed a halftime lead of 28-3, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
