The Gainesville Cardinals entered their tilt with the Freedom Eagles with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Gainesville strolled past Freedom with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 49-35. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Freedom is ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Madison McKenzie, who scored 16 points along with four steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton White, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Gainesville pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Gainesville will be playing at home against Unity Reed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Unity Reed comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Freedom won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Patriot at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Patriot focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Wednesday.
