Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Central City/Centura made sure to put some runs up on the board against Twin River on Thursday. The Kernels were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Titans. The Kernels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.
Luke Vakiner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colter Lueders, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Quinn Jensen was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
Central City/Centura's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Elkhorn, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.
Elkhorn skirted past Central City/Centura 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Antlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kernels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
