The Kountze Lions missed an extra point against the Warren Warriors on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Kountze and Warren were almost perfectly matched up, but Kountze suffered an agonizing 29-28 loss. Kountze gained 160 more yards on the day, but it was Warren that made the best of use of them.
Kountze's loss came despite strong showings from D'keylind Taylor and Camden Johnson. Taylor rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, while Johnson rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Warren found their leader in underclassman Hunter Hollyfield, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown. Hollyfield was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
Kountze are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Newton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.1% over those games). As for Warren, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.
Kountze does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Warren also has no future games currently scheduled.
